Nature Journal Page
Posted by lapazfarm on April 24th, 2006 filed in nature study, Superboy Work SamplesI have a new link on my sidebar in which I share photos of pages from my and Superboy’s nature journals. Take a peek and see what it is we do on our “sanity days” here at Lapaz Farm.
Here is a sample:
To see more, click on the link in the sidebar labeled Pages from Our Nature Journal.
Hope you enjoy this peek into the “nature” of our homeschool.
I would LOVE to see some of your pages as well!
Ok, I had some questions about what journals we use.
I use this one:
Nature Journal: A guided Journal for illustrating and recording your observations of the Natural world. By Clare Walker Leslie
Superboy just uses a hardback, spiral bound blank book. He likes the spiral binding because it lays flat well.
For reference you can’t beat Clare Walker Leslie’s Keeping a Nature Journal
For younger kids that might need more instruction and inspiration, plus fun activities, this journal is very nice:My Nature Journal: A Personal Nature Guide for Young People by Adrienne Olmstead.
Hope that helps!

Theresa,
BOTH journals are beautiful! I am in awe of your talent. What do you use for your journal? Of course Josh and I especially loved your bird pictures and drawing.

Thanks for sharing. We are newbies at the nature book, so we really needed to see this.

What lovely notebooks drawings, Theresa! It looks like you use blank paged, hardback notebooks…is this correct? I really admire your artistry!

Theresa, you and your son are quite talented. This is incredible.

Thanks everyone for your kind remarks. I added to the main post a link to the journal I use. Now I can’t wait to see some of your drawings!

These journals are the most stunning things ever. They remind me of the “Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady” or something by Jim Arnosky. You are a terrific artist (not to mention observant naturalist), and your son is clearly following in your footsteps!

[…] This passage spoke to me because in the morning as I was trying to “plan” our studies for the day, I happened to show Joshua this amazing post of beautiful nature journal drawings on Theresa’s blog, Lapaz Farm. […]

Your drawings are beautiful, and so are your son’s. I have fiddled with keeping a nature journal on and off for the past few years, but never seem to be able to stick with it. For some reason, I haven’t been able to interest the kids either. But these photos are inspiring!
