One of these Knights
Posted by lapazfarm on May 19th, 2006 filed in Curriculum or Lack Thereof...Random history for this week is medieval times. Since we only do a topic for a week, and there is SO MUCH to do in medieval times, we just touched on a few high interest topics. For Monday we read through the DK Eyewitness book:Knight, which Superboy had gotten for Christmas. It is wonderful, as most of the Eyewitness books are.
For timelining we focused on the early middle ages, with the Norman invasion and the Battle of Hastings. Superboy made a notebook page with a picture of a suit of armor and labeled all the parts. We also read-aloud Castle, by David MacCauley.
Today we did a project from this website which teaches about heraldry and the coat-of-arms.After we read all about authentic sheild designs, we used their free software download to print up medieval clip-art for the shields we each designed.
I bet you can tell whose is whose!
That was alot of fun and took up most of a very enjoyable morning. A great end to a super week of random history here at Lapaz Farm.
