Big news! Jabberwock defeated!

As one of the literature tie-ins to the fairy-tale unit we are doing, Superboy chose the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll to have a little fun with.
He began by using the poem as copywork. Boy, was that a challenge, with all those nonsense words!
Then he wrote out his own definitions for all the nonsense words based on context clues and what the words sounded like to him.
Then he sketched what he imagined all the creatures would look like.
Then he typed up the poem, cut apart the stanzas, and used them to make his own comic-strip version of the poem.
And here it is:

I am so proud of the effort that went into this comic strip and I think it looks great! It will make a fantastic addition to his fairy notebook which we are putting together this week.
His goal now is to have the poem memorized to recite at tea-time on friday. He almost has it down already so I’m sure he will achieve his goal.
Tomorrow…splatter fairies! Stay tuned!

How cool! I love Jabberwocky! My daughter, Hannah went through an intense Alice phase and memorized this poem. Her girls’ club used to visit the Poor Clares once a year at their convent in the city. All the girls had to perform an act to put on a little variety show for the nuns. Each girl got up and shyly recited a prayer or sang a little hymn. The nuns are all old and they could barely hear the girls. My daugher got up and did a dramatic re-enactment of Jabberwocky. the nuns were in stitches, laughing hysterically over her campy gestures. She was the hit of the show! The nuns adored her.

It is a great poem. I love your son’s artwork!
