Making a little progress

Posted by lapazfarm on December 5th, 2006 filed in Curriculum or Lack Thereof...

A little update on our progress for our Advent studies.

We are a bit behind, but rapidly catching up on our Jesse tree. We made several ornaments and read the corresponding Bible selections today. Here are the first set: Creation, Adam and Eve in the Garden, the Fall, and Noah’s Ark.

We are waiting to get the drill from our other house tonight to drill little holes in the tops to thread purple ribbon and hang them on the Jesse tree.

We started making the first few spoon saints as well.

Here are St. John Damascene made by Superboy, and St Barbara made by JBug (with a bit of help, of course):

Here are both of their versions of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. She is not an Advent saint (she is Nov. 17), but we had so much fun studying her last month that they both wanted to make a spoon saint for her anyway:

And Superboy also insisted on making his favorite saint, Francis of Assisi.

I think we are off to a fine start!

Those are awesome! I like the way you used those little ice cream spoon thingies.

Whoever painted those ornaments did a beautiful job. I think you guys are off to a great start.

Very nice. Are you packing all the while?

  5. lapazfarm Says:

Um. No. We are busy ripping up all the flooring from the new house. Think 1970’s green shag carpet. Ugh! Plus the house needs to be re-plumbed before we move in. I think we will start packing next week. Things will move along pretty rapidly after that I hope!

Wow! Bless you! Enjoy these beautiful crafts then while you can. It gets hard to do anything as everything goes into boxes. May your move go smoothly. I’ll be thinking of you as I pack and I’ll offer a prayer here and there that all goes well for you.

Thanks! I’ll do the same for you, Suzanne!

1970’s green shag - yuck! Are the floors nice underneath? I ripped up disgusting kitchen carpet in our house once and found that they’d padded it with newspapers from the early 1940’s - cool but really gross too, iykwim!
Love the turban on St. John Damascene.

Actually underneath the living room and bedrooms is beautiful hardwood flooring.Yeah! But in the kitchen and dining is ugly linoleum tiles. Needless to say, we will be putting new flooring in the kitchen and dining room ASAP. It may have to wait awhile as we also have to get all new appliances $$$. Oh, well. Slowly but surely!

Great ornaments - what an artist. I love the stars. And it’s never too late in Advent to catch up!
