The big move…eventually
Posted by lapazfarm on December 8th, 2006 filed in Random RamblingsI wanted to share with you all some photos of the house we bought, and explain just what is taking us so long to move in. Though we are so very very happy to be moving into our own home, as opposed to renting, the house does have a few minor cosmetic issues that will need to be adressed before we move in. These pictures, I’m sure will speak for themselves.
Get ready for a 1970’s extravaganza!
Here is a view through the house from the dining room. Note the green carpet. The green linoleum. The lovely 1970’s cabinetry. The aqua paint in the back room.

But, I can actually say I am grateful for the ugly green carpeting because it preserved perfectly the gorgeous wood flooring underneath in the living room and bedrooms! That hideous linoleum, on the other hand, only hides more hideous linoleum. So the kitchen and dining room flooring need to be re-done. Not sure if we can accomplish that before moving in, because we are so ready to move in!
Another issue: Appliances must be replaced.

I swear my grandma had this same stove. She got it as a wedding gift. Need I say more? The fridge is one of those apartment size deals. Not even close to big enough for us. Gotta go.
Lets move on to the bathroom. I am not sure, but I don’t really believe we could fit any more colors in here…

Oh, wait, I think they missed yellow.
Did I tell you this house has only 3 bedrooms? We will be putting Superboy and Squirt in one (with an extra spot for Cityboy when he visits), JBug in another, JackJack in the master with Ed and I. Where does that leave Modgirl? Why, the lovely aqua back room, of course!

She is thrilled, let me tell you. But given the choice of putting some elbow grease into remodeling this room or sharing a room with JBug…lets just say she picked up a hammer and got right to work!
In addition the house has been completely re-plumbed (yesterday!) with a new water heater and the water filter system has been serviced as well as the heating system (today!). They all seem to be in working order now. New appliances will be picked out this weekend and scheduled for delivery next week.
So, after all that you may wonder just what in the world sold us on this place, anyway.
Could it have been the neighborhood?
Yep. I think that might have been it.

What a fabulous yard! I like the house (what I saw of it), though I can understand your wanting to update some things.

You have shown a house, but what a wonderful HOME you will make it! And that view?!!! Wow!
I’m so happy for you!

Congratulations! We have the same view! I can see why you want to do some updating, but I gotta tell ya — we love the stove!

That sounds about like our house, but ours was built in the hip early 80’s, lol. Every time I look at the wood paneling in my living room (project we haven’t got to yet) I adjust the blinds so I can look out at the woods and remind myself why we moved here. Be warned, the projects are endless!

Marianna and I laughed so hard at this lighthearted description of the new house! The view totally makes it worth all the elbow grease expended.

Our yard is not quite so expansive, but we bought our 1977 3br/2.5bth for the same reason - land! The previous owners chez nous had replaced the shag carpet with beige and our linoleum is neutral, but boy does it look familiar! We do have more the mustard yellow/harvest gold version in the baths, though. The view makes it all worth it. Congrats!

i so feel your pain.
We love rescuing houses too.

How exciting!! What a great Christmas present this year! And hey, the wood floors are a find. The rest is all superficial. Just watch a few episodes of Flip This House lol! Its all about location - she says from the middle of absolute noplace. Sigh! I envy your green grass girl!

Congratulations! The yard looks wonderful, and you’ll enjoy those wood floors. When we first moved up here, we rented half of a 100 year old farmhouse which had been “updated” in the 60’s with *bright orange* shag carpeting. So it could be worse
BTW, is that oven actually 2 ovens??? Our range is circa about 1985 and sounds as if it’s going to blow up every time you turn it on (it’s gas, so that makes me nervous). All the ovens that I can find with 2 separate compartments havbe one on the bottom and one on the top (not wall ovens.) This is not good for houses with 2 toddlers. I like the old style better.

I think the one on the left is a warming compartment? Regardless it is gone now. A guy came and hauled all of the appliances away today, including a huge ancient chest freezer that looked like some kind of art deco nightmare.

I like the house…it looks like it has good bones! But your “outside room” is so worth the work on the inside! Wow!

It’s so “vintage” - very stylish. I love it - and the yard is beautiful. Oh, you are going to have such fun!

Congratulations Theresa!
The house and its surroundings look beautiful.

Beautiful view — good luck with all the inside redecorating you want to do!

The view is beautiful. I am sure your children will thrive in your new home. It will be a great opportunity for them to learn about home improvement. I wish I knew how to do half of what my dh knows. We have the habit of buying houses that need lots of repair.

We too have just bought a house (closing is tomorrow and move in 4 days before Christmas) and even though there isn’t much to do with ours it still seems so daunting so I can only imagine how busy you must be.
Congratulations and I’d fall in love with that yard too! How beautiful!
I’ve missed my daily visits to your blog and hopefully after the new year I can get time again to look, learn, and be exceedingly jealous of all the neat stuff you guys do. lol

Congratulations! Hope things are coming together! We moved 6 months ago and our bathroom is still a riot of pink, grey and shiny lilypad wallpaper!!

We did the same thing with a 70’s house, only we lived in it while we renovated! That was an interesting time in our lives, especially since ds was a just a toddler.
I see by you later posts that you’re moved in. When you’re able to get back to blogging, it will be fun to see how you changed the rooms.
