Keeping the Preschoolers Busy

Perhaps one of the greatest challenges homeschooling Moms face is dealing with littles while trying to school the olders.

I am trying very hard not to go insane to keep things running smoothly around here and some days I am more successful than others. The successful days are turning out to be the days where I keep them busy with a variety of short, focused activities, rather than letting them run around like nuts have entirely free play.

Here are a few activities that worked the past couple of days:

Squirt enjoys sorting ladybugs by size (download from Shelly Lovett printables).

here JBug is carefully washing off rocks she found to add to her collection

while squirt works with Legos (filling up various sized flats with 8’s)

I just got this toy from Gummylump and it is a real winner. It is called 3D Feel and Find.

JBug uses the toy as intended and tries to find the right shape to fit into the puzzle by touch alone.

While Squirt uses the other half as simple shape-matching puzzles.

Meanwhile JackJack entertains himself learning how to eat oatmeal all by himself!

Well…he needed a bath anyway and it kept him happy for quite awhile!

Between these types of activities and snacks, lunch, naps, a book or two and some outside play in the afternoon their days are pretty busy and productive. And fun!

And Mom is beat!LOL!

As always, you have the best ideas and the neatest things going with your kids. I’m always in awe of all you do and how beautifully put together your homeschool is…

I love the ladybug sorting activity, I’m going to try and make one for my grandkids… I know they’d love it.

    Thanks!

Wow! If I were anywhere nearby I’d show up on your doorstep at sunset with Sangria after such a day!

I can identify with the trying to keep things running smoothly (not going insane). I also find that too much free time doesn’t work around here. I like your ideas and pictures.

A great post! About the rock washing-would you place the items in reverse for a left-hander?? Thanks
    Jennifer

Jennifer, I never really thought of that. But now that you mention it, I probably just habitually set things up to progress from left to right, not thinking about handedness. Good point!
