Egg-clectic Egg-stravaganza!
Apr 1st, 2007 by lapazfarm
For Holy Week (aka Easter week) and in honor of my blog being nominated for best unschooling/eclectic blog at the Homeschool blog awards (thanks Amy!) we will be taking a break from our usual studies (whatever that means! LOL!) and scrambling up some fun egg-themed school activities. In case you wanted to follow along, or hatch a plan for your own eggstravaganza, here are some eggcellent websites with tons of ideas to get you rolling! (thanks to the clickschooling yahoo group for many of these links).
Incredible Edible Egg: a grade A extra-large compilation of links to egg-related sites.
San Diego Zoo Science experiments: there is a section on this page devoted to experiments with eggs. I REALLY like these ideas! You can bet we will be doing these!
The American Egg Board-decorating eggs (and more)
The Incredible Journey From Hen To Home -egg-based curriculum for grades 4-6
Hatch and Match: online matching game-cute!
Spinning egg-sprinkler: Just plain weird science experiment.
Soft shelled eggs: the classic elementary-school eggsperiment, dissolve an egg’s shell in vinegar, then observe results. The site says do with hard boiled or raw egg. I personally recommend raw as it is SO MUCH COOLER.
Egg-drop: Of course! Who wouldn’t want to try tossing a raw egg from the roof! Here is one from Zoom! and here is a contest.
For a neato twist on that classic eggsperiment, these students were asked to make an egg-drop device that looked as if it were designed by Leonardo DaVinci! Make sure you get a look at these!
Egg in a Bottle and Falling Egg from one of our favorite science fun sites, Joey Green Mad scientist.
We will certainly be revisiting the egg pages of one of our favorite sites, Kidwings.
4H virtual Farm-embryology: info-packed site on chick development. Very well done with great photos.
State Easter eggs: an Easter egg decorated to represent each state (and DC). Pretty cool!
And lets not forget the food! We will be trying out the following recipes:
Easter Egg Nests
I think that is enough to keep us busy this week and more! We will, of course, post pictures once we get going.
So, what are you waiting for? Get crackin’!

Woo-hoo! Congratulations, Theresa! Looks like a fun week.
Congratulations on your nomination…you deserve it!!!
Congrats on the nomination. I love the egg ideas, too!
And congrats right back at ya, Leonie!
Theresa, can I add one? An Egg is Quiet is an excellent picture book about…eggs!
We have an egg-stravaganza planned, too, for next week. I had mostly art projects but now am adding many of your great science ideas.
