Learning Time

Posted by lapazfarm on October 27th, 2007 filed in montessori, JBug

Literally. JBug is learning to tell time. And who knew she would be so clever at it!?!

Here is the little ‘”time center”  I made up for her:

The electronic clock thingy was a gift from my mom awhile back. JBug was not ready for it then and it has sat on a shelf for about a year, but I think she is ready for it now, so out it comes.

But the real meat of the center is the set of little clock cards and labels I made  for her to match analog to digital time.  I have them divided up into sets of 12 and she will learn a set at a time. Right now she has mastered the “o-clock” set, and is working on the “quarter past” set. The “half-past” and “quarter til” set are waiting! I found that tic-tac boxes are the perfect size for keeping the little labels separate and organized, and they work as dividers in the little pink box with the clock cards to keep the sets separate. I also made up control sheets for each set so she can check her work. I got the graphics from this site:Time for Time

There is also a little wipe-off clock with movable hands I picked up somewhere, and the Eric Carl book The Grouchy Lady Bug, which is about telling time.

All together it makes a very hands-on way of learning to tell time if you ask me!LOL!

And speaking of time, it’s time for me to get off the computer and  go make lunch for the kiddos! See you later!

What fun! And, I clicked right on over to the site you linked — wow, those worksheets are great. I had a lot of fun making up several different sheets for Larkin.
