Thumbing our noses at NCLB
Mar 25th, 2008 by lapazfarm
Anyone who knows me at all knows just exactly how I feel about that piece of…legislation.
So in complete contempt for the advice of education “experts” and with utter disregard for all-important test scores, I offer you Superboy’s last quarter schedule:
morning:
- math
- art appreciation
- art lesson
- botany
afternoon:
- writing
- poetry
- independent reading
- independent art
And here is our scientifically developed assessment tool:
LaPaz home learning: taking being “left behind” to a new level.

I like your system on the board. I may try that.
I love seeing how your schedule works. Thanks for sharing!
Looks like a great system to me! I’m going to be trying it
you mean that kids can learn something without testing?
how could anyone learn anything if they are not sitting in a class with 30 others their same age and a certified teacher who is exhausted and or burned out?
i just dont get it
I guess i like looking outside the box and letting my kids learn from the world around them
Loved your post
..
and loved looking at your art unit study books!

I have two family members who teach public schools. They HATE NCLB. I don’t think anyone needs to worry about *your* children’s education.
I hate the testing thing too but I dont have a choice. Our state requires it!
I looks like a wonderful schedule to me!!
Love the schedule. Thanks for sharing it. I love the way and the things that you teach your children. My girls and I are thumbing our noses with you.
Simple……but so efficient.
Schools could learn from you!
Love the look of the “schedule” – I am a visual person and this just seems NICE to me.
Looks great, your schedule that is- the NCLB thing looks scary. None of that yet in Canada, at least not from where I sit.
Great art links- we especially enjoyed the Japenes style tree and water scene from the Usborne big book of Art.
Have a great week!
I am LOVING your site! I just found it and it’s really great. I have my daughter in a Montessori Charter Public school in the area and they’re having to do the standardized testing in the 3rd grade and some after that too. I love her school right now, but they’re changing some things which I’m not sure about… a little less “montessorian”. Anyway, just thought I would leave a note!
