mail run

Published by lapazfarm at 8:46 pm under Random Ramblings

This was taken around 3 in the afternoon. It is already starting to get dark. Temps are staying consistently below zero. We hit 20 below yesterday.

And it is absolutely beautiful.

What’s it like where you are????

Down here in Western Washington we had a 55 degree day, with sun. We were running around in long sleeve T’s, but wishing we had sweaters when the wind hit us off the water.

It looks beautiful up there, but I’m not sure I’d handle the cold that well! Glad you’re happy with your location. :)

    wow it looks beautiful!
It is clear blue skies and sunny here in Japan, bit of a nip in the air, just enough to give you rosy cheeks. Gets dark about 4.30pm and quite chilly at night. We don’t get much snow here so we are trying to decide which snowy part of Japan to g to so Ebi-kun can see the real stuff!

We had our first snow flurries on Tuesday. Friday morning, I thought the wet driveway meant it had rained during the night. Later I found out it had snowed, but melted before I got up. Mary, my 9 year old, said she realized that we actually live where it snows, rather than just visiting. We have to wear all the clothes we own all at once, and we’re resisting it. In Ft. Lauderdale, the girls wore sundresses and went barefoot year round. The entire state of North Carolina is teal on the newspaper’s weather map. Teal! We never had any intention of living where the temperature got down to teal. South Florida is yellow right now.

Down here in Texas, we hit 68 degrees today and it’s supposed to be in the mid 70’s for Thanksgiving. Your photo is BEAUTIFUL… but I like my warm weather. :-)

Currently wearing shorts and flip flops here in PHX, AZ. Don’t think I could handle Alaska.

13 degrees and snowing here in northern NY. We’ve had cold temps and snow, but haven’t dipped below 0 yet! It gets dark at around 4:30. Beautiful picture!

Blustery and cold here in central Maine- temps in the low teens at night. We had a few flurries yesterday and my son is impatiently waiting for the snow we know will come soon!
It is breathtaking where you are… just lovely.

That is beautiful. It’s just gotten really cold here in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, with lots of flurries. We haven’t had a proper snow yet.

About 11 degrees here in upstate NY, wind chill of 1, with lake effect snows and a snowstorm forming on the horizon to bring us some big snow this week…. twilight at 4:30 PM. :-)

That is a lovely site. Not so sure about the 20 below though. We are low 20’s and had our first ice storm here in the mountains of North Carolina.

    Magical! Absolutely magical.

Here in Louisiana, we can’t even imagine 20 below!

  12. Robinon 23 Nov 2008 at 10:02 am

    Wow! Wow! That is stunning!
I don’t think I’d like it forever…. but I could definitely go for it for a season. That is truly spectacular. I love all your Alaska pictures.
Here is VA we’ve had a few flurries, and some cold weather. But it’s nothing like what you’ve gotten.
I’m hoping our flurries will indicate a whiter winter this year.
Could you possibly send some of that stuff our way?

In northern Mississippi – yesterday, highs in the forties. Today, warm up to mid fifties. Overcast. Blah.

Mail runs are pretty dull here.

    Please send snow.

    Thanks.

My anti-spam word is peace and that’s appropriate because I always find it peaceful when there’s that much snow.

Here is Indiana, it’s 30 degrees and sunny. We’ve had a few days of snow flurries, which has been unheard of in our ten years here.

This is COLD for us in November.

Here in England (not far from London) we had a tiny bit of snow last night – just a very light covering which melted and turned to rain before my toddler got a chance to make “‘no-balls”. A cold, wet day (40ish with wind chill and biting rain) and a frost due tonight.

    Gorgeous! So blue & lacy.

What an amazing picture! It is just beautiful It could be on a card. I really think that you should make a calendar with all of your beautiful nature pictures. I would buy one!

We are starting to get in the 30s here are night.

Um, nothing at all like that!

Still crunching through Autumn leaves here. What a great photo!

  19. Sandraon 24 Nov 2008 at 11:27 am

I’m in Glendale, AZ, so we’re still wearing shorts and flip flops LOL

I DO miss the snow though, goodness I would give anything to be there right now :)

  20. Sherrion 24 Nov 2008 at 11:59 am

    61F and raining here…very cozy.
Your photo is beautiful. I would love to visit, but don’t think I could handle those temps, especially every day. I just don’t do well being cold. One good snow a year is all I ask for…not that we usually get it :) .

  21. Jenniferon 24 Nov 2008 at 3:03 pm

    Wow – absolutely stunning, Theresa!

We’re not 20 below here in North Alabama – the Maples are bare now though, and it’s crisp out. Our lows were 16 over the weekend. Still…it’s hard not to be wistful when I see all of that lovely snow forcing your family into what must be an absolutely magical cloister this winter!

Been lovin’ your Montessori sprucing up, too! Thanks!

  22. Chelitaon 24 Nov 2008 at 4:14 pm

The photo is glorious! :) Wow!

  23. Mariaon 24 Nov 2008 at 8:51 pm

    Beautiful picture!

It was in the low 30’s in Wisconsin today. We had our first measurable snowfall last night. We woke up to big fat flakes of snow falling and about 2 inches of snow on the ground. My kids, ages 3 and 5, had a blast in the snow. I helped them make a snowman, and I am sure achy tonight! But, I love snow too, but sure would not want the extreme cold you get in Alaska.

  25. Chrissyon 25 Nov 2008 at 8:24 am

I just wanted to let you know that I have nominated your blog for an award.

  26. Jenniferon 25 Nov 2008 at 8:59 am

Shorts and barefeet here in the Florida Keys, of course, but we’re heading out to Colorado for Thanksgiving and dd is super excited – we bought SOCKS the other day!

  27. Ellenon 25 Nov 2008 at 7:59 pm

We’re in Chapel Hill. I swear we’re not following you around, and we’re definitely not moving to Alaska! Which move was more of a shock for your family, sub-tropics to temperate zone, or temperate to sub-arctic? How about giving us a ModGirl update? She’s here at UNC, right?

  28. lapazfarmon 25 Nov 2008 at 9:09 pm

Ellen, I think this has been the most drastic change for us. Since we have family in NC and FL, which we visited a lot, and we have moved back and forth between the two areas several times, we were familiar with both those areas beforehand.
Modgirl is indeed at UNC and is doing fabulously. Thanks for asking! We are very much looking forward to her visiting us up here at Christmas time. We miss her bunches!
