Just a few random things

A few random things that all happened to be hard to photograph for one reason or another:shiny surfaces, odd lighting, colors washed out…very frustrating. But, I do what I can.

The view out our kitchen window, which had a very pretty sunset glow the other day around 2:00 (yes, the sun is setting around 3:oo or so lately):

Seeing as it is my view for a good part of the day I am glad it is a pretty one!

Our beautiful thanksgiving centerpiece which Superboy made. It is basically an ice wreath with a gold candle frozen into the center. He brought it in from outside and set it on the table just before dinner and it hardly melted at all while we ate.

Oh, and it is sitting on top of a table runner I whipped up for the occasion. You can’t see it, but the fabric is backed with a nice deep green felt, which set the leaf print off nicely.

Superboy’s Repousse art project, which although you can’t see the colors well here, turned out to have a really nice 3-D quality:

He really enjoyed working with the metal sheet and has lots of idea for more things to do with this technique.

This week’s art center all set up and ready. Doesn’t it look tempting? Who could resist all those gorgeous colors of brand new soft pastels??? Hopefully not my kids!

And both Superboy and JBug are busily working on projects which I cannot show photographs of here because they are gifts for people who read this blog, including a sister in Chapel Hill, a penpal in the FL Keys, and a certain someone we met while crossing the great plains.

Add to that the excitement of Superboy’s upcoming Karate rank testing,  Advent beginning, the proximity of Christmas, and the prospect of seeing greatly-missed family members soon, and we are just bursting with energy and creativity around here. I just love this time of year!

  1. Wow the view out of your window is so fairytale like. It doesn’t seem real. How wondrous!

  2. That front window view is really gorgeous. Magical!

And I, for one, would be totally unable to resist that new box of pastels — I hope everyone enjoys creating beautiful art with them!

Thanks for sharing your many great ideas here.

  3. If I had that view while doing the dishes, I don’t think that I would mind doing them anymore.

Can you tell me a little bit more about the art technique you showed? Thanks.

  4. I am living vicariously through your blog, since I have always wanted to live in Alaska. We visited once, and I could not believe how beautiful it was! Your guests will be mesmerized, I’m sure; enjoy being together :~)

  5. I love that window view. Ya know, I find one of the hardest things to photograph is a christmas tree. Do you take it with the lights on or off? Do you know what I mean? Its tough!

  6. Girl, you got that art thing down!! Tell SP it’s amazing and beautiful!!

  7. Gorgeous photos and gorgeous work!!! I love all the interesting hands-on things you all have been working on lately. :)

  8. Thanks, everyone!

Chrissy, the lesson plans for the Repousse project are here: http://cdn.dickblick.com/lessonplans/pdfs/cp_repousse.pdf

Mrs Darling, I know exactly what you mean about photographing the Christmas tree. I am determined to get a good shot this year!

  9. What lovely pics, art, views and everything! Just beautiful. :)

  10. Amazing things. I love that piece of Superboy’s. Tigger was impressed by JBug’s last go round with the pastels so maybe I’ll put things on a tray like that for her…

Your collection of bird houses is cute, too. Useless for actual birds, but great on your windowsill.

  11. Ahhh…I always feel like I’ve enjoyed a good meal when I stop by here. There’s always something new to savor!

  12. I love the Repousse art project! Thanks for sharing the link.

  13. I actually saw trees that looked like that last week in CO, it was lovely!
