Sending out the love
Dec 10th, 2008 by lapazfarm
Superboy, JBug, and I have been busy, busy, busy making gifts for folks far away. I can’t show you theirs yet because they are gifts for blog readers. But I can show you mine, which are mostly for my grandsons, Squirt and Jack Jack. I miss them terribly, so making them something with my own hands is a small way for me to feel close to them when they are so far away.
This is for my little monkey Jack Jack, who is 3 now, believe it or not.
I painted an unfinished wooden box and stuck on some chipboard letters and wooden decorations:

Inside is a felt play-mat I made, along with some rain forest “Toob” animals and some hand-made accessories.

I put rice in the bottom portion of the tree so it will stand easily, and the little circle of tall grass is made of stiffened felt.
Here is a close-up of the little hut:

I think it turned out pretty cute for my first attempt at such a thing.
This is for my sweet little Squirt, who is now a big boy at age 5:

I used the same design as for the Jungle mat, but altered the color scheme for a dinosaur theme:

Can you see the wooden bead “coconuts” on the tree?
The little “volcano.”

I like how it all packs up into the boxes so it will be easier for them to keep it all together and put it away.

I hope they enjoy playing with it and can feel all the love I sewed into every stitch.
Grandma misses you, my sweet boys.

{{{}}} How you must miss your sweet boys.
I just love your play mats, they are incredible. Now you’ve inspired me to think about making my ds2 a car mat.
What lucky little boys they will be. You are so clever and imaginative to think up such lovely, personal gifts. Elle
Very cute!!!
Oh wow! These are just great! Those boys are really gonna enjoy them. What a great idea Theresa!
These are great! I am planning to make my little monkey felt playmats – a construction site and a jungle type one, I have bought the felt but that is as far as I have got so far.
Those are amazing. You did a wonderful job.
What wonderful gifts! I hope you see the little ones soon.

These look great Theresa! You’ve inspired me – now I just need to get up the gunption to do something with that pleasant idea!
I hope your grandsons are doing well. I’m hoping so and have been keeping them and you in my prayers…
Oh Theresa, those are awesome! I think maybe even I with my limited sewing skills could pull one off! I’m sure the boys will love them.
These are fantastic! I’m sure they’ll be a big hit.

I’m trying to find your post from last year on the nativity set you made. Would you be able to take pity and show me where?

Thank you so much:) That is indeed the one. I purchased a jigsaw at a garage sale awhile back planning on making THIS:)
BTW I’m mulling and reading lots about Reggio, very thought provoking.
Cuteness girl!
Those are great!
Gifts with love in every stitch that just can’t be bought – Christmas gifts don’t get any better than that
) Thanks for the inspiration!
Wow, these are amazing. I’d love to be able to make something like this! (Although, I like to console myself by saying that it’s never too late to learn).
How wonderful! My most memorable gifts received as a child were the ones made by someone. So precious was the thought that they made it for me. Great ideas, thanks!
beautiful job! i think the boys will love them.
Creative, practical, fun, and chock-full of love!! What great gifts!!
