The skillz, he’s got ‘em!

Superboy bought himself a cast net yesterday and spent some time today teaching himself how to throw it properly. The idea is to get the net to spread out in the air so it lands in a perfect circle as it hits the water. What seems simple and fairly straight-forward is actually a complex series of motions which, if you’ve ever attempted them, are not exactly easy.
But Superboy is nothing if not determined. With no one to show him how it is done, he got instructions from the internet, went down to the beach to practice in shallow water, and he practiced. Over and over and over.

Until he got it right.
Here is a video his proud mama took showing just how well he taught himself:

Now…where are those fish?

Wherever they are, they’d better watch out, — Superboy’s got the skillz!

You can just walk to the beach?? I’m so jealous. I was envious of your Alaska house, too! I’ve been thinking about you since you announced your move and hope everything has gone well. Have you been able to see the little boys?

What a gorgeous spot! I can almost taste the salt water.
Impressive, Superboy!
That is awesome!
Way to go, Superboy! Last summer, my brother’s friend was teaching me to cast a net like that. I tried 5 or 6 times and my arms were already aching. It is hard work! Then, this summer we went out again. On my 2nd throw, I caught about 35 little bait fish! That was all we needed and I was so proud. The men had already thrown the net about 10 times each.
I know it was actually just the luck/skill of where we were, but it sure felt great!
Love the independence and determination!
Seeing these photos made me think Superboy is having such a great childhood. He must have great memories, experiences and sense of accomplishment and confidence. lucky boy!
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I have nominated you for the I Heart (Love) Your Blog Award. See my blog for details, please! CONGRATULATIONS!
Very cool!
That is so cool. We tried it once at a boat show and it is hard!
Awesome! Just like Mullet Fingers from “Hoot”. Can he catch fish with his bare hands yet?
And just when I thought that hat and boots were permanently attached….
What a lovely sunny day! I sense a fish dinner might be on the horizon!
I grew up in Charlesont, SC, and I still remember being in elementary school when the vice principal taught us how to cast that net. That’s a Southern rite of passage, there, Superboy!
WTG Superboy! that is no easy feat. My husband can do it and I have tried, but failed every time. :0( If it were up to me to catch dinner, we would be going to a seafood restaurant. =P
Wow – you’ll have to teach me this when I visit, Sam.
