pumpkiny patterns

Finally I have a chance to post another tray for Halloween.
Nothing too original here, just a patterning exercise.

I had a bunch of Halloween-themed erasers and I arranged them on my flatbed scanner in lines in various patterns (landscape orientation), leaving open space on one end. Then I simply printed them on cardstock and cut the scanned pages into strips. It worked pretty well, so I made 3 pages worth, which ended up being twelve strips.
Here JBug is being my guinea pig to see if they will work for Jack Jack next week:

Being 8 years old, she went through them pretty easily, which is good because never having done this type of thing with her before (oops!) it was good to know she could do it. I think it will be just about right for JackJack, having just turned 4 this month.
So, there you go. Ultra-simple and ready to go in minutes, and the best part is the cost– about a dollar for the erasers at KMart! I can see doing the same type of thing at other holidays with erasers and I’ve seen it done with stickers as well. No need for those expensive patterning sets I’ve seen at various Montessori suppliers and toy stores. No thanks. I’ll save my dollars for other things, like Halloween candy, perhaps?

Hey Theresa! I love your tray ideas, they always really live the “have fun while learning” philosophy. I have a crazy question (which you may have addressed before, sorry if it’s a repeat!): where do you keep all your trays when they aren’t being used, and in turn all the supplies? Do you have an inventory list? I have workdrawers, like workboxes, and this is where I run into problems: storage and keeping track of what I have. Here’s to hoping you have a grand system

Actually you’ve hit upon the major flaw in my system! I am always working on this, trying different things, but have yet to hit upon the grand design, LOL! Currently I have a closet with shelves where I keep most of the trays and boxes and such. Other stuff is sort of scattered around and tucked in here and there. It’s really not a good system at all and the source of many a frustrated treasure hunt for just the right thing.
Sorry I can’t be of more help there. Let me know if you get it figured out, ok???
Glad to know I’m not the only one!!!!
this is a cute idea! and extra fun for Halloween!
