This is why we call her “Bearbait”

We took off on another explore yesterday. After a morning of volunteering at the Raptor center, we headed up Harbor Mountain to take a hike in a small corner of the glorious Tongass National Forest.

The place is ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR. (honestly, theseĀ pictures do it no justice.)

Huge trees, moss-carpeted forest floor, fantastic long-range views…so beautiful! And (other than my noisy kiddos) utterly quiet.
I really love that part.
And JBug once again lived up to her hiking moniker,
“Bearbait.”

The girl just doesn’t get the concept of safety in numbers. (see Superboy and I way below?)

Luckily, Dad keeps her in check pretty well and we all made it to the top just fine. (Bearbait included). It was a wonderful day spent in a great place. And as a bonus we came home to this gorgeous sunset:

Will this ever get old? I don’t think so.

Ohmigosh, that sunset is GORGEOUS! My mom visited Tongass a couple of years ago when she took an Alaskan cruise. She also visited Sitka. She invited my oldest dd (who was 13 at the time) to be her cabinmate, but my dd declined. Can you believe it??? Anyway, dd is going to the Caribbean this year w/my mom (another cruise, that lady gets around).
You live in an amazingly beautiful place! Awesome pictures. I hope to visit up there someday…
Amazing — thank you for sharing your hike with us. I’m so glad you blog, and with photos!
…so, so beautiful!
Oh… what is just SO gorgeous! You are so blessed to live in such an amazing place. And, I can’t help but be thankful for God’s creativity!
Oh wow! that last photo is just beautiful.
Wow – what beautiful pictures, Theresa.
I am in awe … both of the landscape and your photography!
Gaahhh! Too much beautiful-ness!
No wonder you had to go back.
I look around the region where I live and I know it is “home.” There must be something pretty cool going on in your family to look around that amazing place and say, “this is home.”
I’ve always said, some kids just need to wear a cowbell!
